A doujin is a type of manga or comic book that typically focuses on romance and comedy. The main difference between a doujinshi and a manga is that the former is typically published independently and not through the publication of the author's original work. And while many doujinshi are for-profit, some are fanmade as personal projects. To make this post more accessible to those who don't know what a doujinshi is, we include it as an example. This doujinshi is a parody of "Princess Mononoke". Not only does the artist think this movie is boring, but he also has some really strong opinions about where the movie got its inspiration from. As most of us know, "Princess Mononoke" was based off the Japanese tale of "Okami-san and Her Seven Companions", which was itself based off the Chinese Buddhist legend of "Kogitsune". Now we all know that we can't expect a doujin to go into great detail with its analysis, but it's still interesting to see the artist's thoughts on his subject. In the author's own words, this is a parody of "High School Debut". However, it could easily be mapped onto other examples of the genre, such as "Maid-sama!" or any other shoujo manga. It's all pretty standard fare here. Boy starts dating girl, girl is secretly a princess/maid/demon-hunter who saves boy from certain death regularly. When boy thinks he has finally gotten the courage to confess his feelings to his beloved she finally appears before him…but she's already dead. Boy cries over her body for a while and then leaves with her body in his arms. He then goes on to realize that his life was actually an illusion created by the jealous girl he just rejected. He then realizes that the true purpose of his existence is to bring her back to life, and once she's back from the dead, they live happily ever after. In saying all that, there are a number of inherent flaws in this story, not the least of which being that it takes place in a world where bodies only stay dead for three days before being reanimated. The sad thing is, this really doesn't even take a lot of skill as a writer. But let's look at another example take on the trope: "Gravitation" by Shoji Kawamori. If the purpose of this doujin is to parody "High School Debut", then it's kind of difficult to do because in that type of story, there really isn't a lot of action to begin with. In "Gravitation", our main character leads a double life as a high school boy and an astronaut, and when he's not doing the former, he's doing the latter. This story doesn't take itself too seriously either. It has some moments that can be taken seriously, such as when Ikuhara does an extended flashback to his childhood and how his brother died before his eyes. cfa1e77820
